Despite being linked to Mamelodi Sundowns a few weeks ago, Bongokuhle is reportedly going to sign for Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United.
The 21-year-old will join as an under 22 initiative in a long-term deal. According to the American website West Central Tribune, Hlongwane has agreed to contract terms with Minnesota.
The news was just unleashed just a day after Maritzburg United’s chairman Farok Kadodia confirmed interest in the player from some European clubs.
Even though he didn’t mention the interest from the USA but revealed that Hlongwane has two agents and that the player doesn’t want a local team.
“The player is determined to go overseas to Europe. He doesn’t want to go to a local club,” Kadodia told the Media.
“It all depends if the offer is right. But whatever we do both parties should be happy, the club and the player.”
The young forward has made 15 appearances and found the back of the net two times this season.
Overall, he has over 56 appearances, eight goals, and six assists for the Team of Choice. He’s considered to be a modern forward that can play through the center or on the wing.
The former of KwaNxamalala Fast XI caught attention in 2018 when he emerged from the young side [DStv Diski Challenge] of MUFC.
He has been consistent since then and became a key player in the squad of Ernest Midderndorp’s team.
Hlongwane has been one of the main weapons for Bafana Bafana lately as he has made six appearances and scored two goals.
